We are delighted to invite you to a reception presented by the
Oxford University Society and the BCCG Regional Committee in Bavaria, on
the topic:
“Making Globalization a Win-Win”
Our special guest and featured speaker is
Dr. Hans-Paul Bürkner,
President and CEO of The Boston
Consulting Group
After joining The Boston
Consulting Group in Munich in 1981, Dr. Bürkner
was head of BCG’s global Financial Services practice before being elected
as the first CEO from Europe in 2004. Today
he is based in Frankfurt and New
York, and travels extensively among BCG’s 66
offices around the world. He is a frequent speaker on the challenges and
opportunities of leadership in a globalising world.
“Making Globalization a Win-Win”
Globalization has opened up a wealth of possibilities – such as growth
opportunities in new regions or access to new talent pools. It has
increased free trade and investment, as well as facilitated the development
of new technologies and products. It has helped low-income countries reduce
poverty. However, globalization has also produced winners and losers. Many
see it as a "Westernization" of native cultures and values. As
the crisis in the financial markets demonstrates, it can expose countries
to more risks and uncertainties. Not only individuals fear losing their
jobs; even today's market leaders are facing new competitors from emerging
markets that threaten their position. Despite these risks, we cannot wish
globalization away. We must learn to embrace it. How can we make
globalization a win-win for all – Western countries and emerging markets,
established players, and new global challengers, rich and poor?
